Driving Directions to Binghamton University

New York State Binghamton University is located one mile west of the city of Binghamton and is a short drive from major urban centers in New York and neighboring states.  The University is 45 miles (about 1 hour) from Ithaca, 70 miles (about 1 1/2 hours) from Syracuse, 190 miles (about 3 hours) from Philadelphia, and 200 miles (about 3 hours) from New York City. Approximate driving time from Albany is 2 1/2 hours, 3 hours from Rochester, 4 1/2 hours from Buffalo.

From Southern New England and Down State New York take the NYS Thruway (87) to Exit 16 (Harriman Exit) to Route 17 WEST. Continue on Route 17 WEST to Exit 70 OUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 south and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From Northern New England and the Albany-Oneonta, NY area take I-88 WEST to I-81 SOUTH to Route 17 WEST. Continue on Route 17 WEST to Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From West of Binghamton, follow Route 17 EAST to Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From Syracuse and North of Binghamton take I-81 South to Route 17 WEST to Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From Ithaca take Route 96B to Route 17 EAST in Owego. Take Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From Pennsylvania take I-81 NORTH across the New York State border to Route 17 WEST. Take Route 17 WEST to Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

From Metropolitan New York at Tappan Zee Bridge take the Thruway 87 NORTH. Take the Harriman Exit to Route 17 WEST. Take Route 17 WEST to Exit 70 SOUTH (Route 201). Follow Route 201 and SUNY signs, cross the bridge heading to Vestal, Rt. 434 and SUNY. There are signs marking the route to campus. Move to left lane as you cross bridge and follow signs to Route 434 East (Binghamton). The main entrance to the university is about 1/4 mile after you enter route 434 East.

Alternate Directions to Campus from Holiday Inn at University
If you are coming to the campus from the Holiday Inn at the University or Howard Johnson, both located on Route 434, there is an entrance to the campus across the road from the Holiday Inn  that is more convenient. From the Holiday Inn, cross route 434 going toward Denny's Restaurant (Bunn Hill Road). From Howard Johnsons, go east on Route 434 to traffic light at Denny's and take a right at the light. About 100 yards after the intersection, you will see an entrance to the campus that passes the tennis courts and baseball fields. Follow the road past the power generation buildings to the end and bear right up a hill that curves to the left. (This is West Drive). The Visitor's Parking lot will be on your right a short distance beyond the crest of the hill.

  • To the Binghamton University Campus
    Binghamton Regional Airport is located approximately eight miles north of Binghamton. It is reached by a single main road (Airport Road) which intersects with Route 17. To reach campus or the hotels located on Route 434, follow Airport Road south to the Route 17 interchange (exit 71) take the Route 17 West entrance toward Johnson City and Endicott. Travel about one mile to the next interchange (Exit 70) and take Exit 70S leading to Route 201 South. Follow this road to signs to the Binghamton University Campus across a bridge to Route 434 East.   • To the Holiday Inn at the University
    Follow above directions from the airport but take the Route 434 West exit marked Vestal. The Holiday Inn is immediately on the right as you enter Route 434.

  • To the Howard Johnson Express Inn
    Take Route 434 West exitand travel about one mile. The Howard Johnson Express Inn is on the right.

  • To the Hampton Inn and Suites
    Follow above directions from the airport but take the Route 434 West exit marked Vestal.  The hotel iw 1/4 mile on the left (pass hotel and take first available U turn.)
